It's a ....

So, let me tell you all about my ultrasound this morning. Let me tell you how I didn't get to eat much breakfast or even drink my morning coffee because there is no room in your stomach for any of those niceties after you down four glasses of water before 7:30 in the morning.
About how I asked Nutmeg just before we went in what she thought it would be, boy or girl, and she said, "Sometimes it just has to be a mystery."
And let me show you what is perhaps the most hideous ultrasound picture ever taken. I feel confident that our baby will not come out looking like a one-eyed monster the way it appears in this photo:

If it does, I can just picture our friends and relatives grasping for nice things to say when they first hold our new baby. (My favorite: "Yep, that's a baby.")
I also don't think it will come out a dead ringer for Tracy Morgan as it appears in this one:

Seriously, I hope you don't think I'm being racist by saying that. It's not just the nose -- look at the cheeks in the sonogram and look at Tracy's cheeks. Now just picture the fetus saying, "Liz Le-mon" in a pouty voice.

And I love Tracy Morgan. In fact, I like the name Tracy. Good for a girl or a boy, right?

Just after her mystery comment, Nutmeg continued, "But I think it's a boy." She had never been wrong about this before.

And she wasn't wrong this time.

That's right, it's a boy. A boy!

The sonographer had no doubt in her voice, and although I barely got to see the screen at all (boo!) Epu saw the boy parts very clearly himself.

I'm kind of reeling over this. I don't know how to raise a boy! I don't know how to change boy diapers very well! I have a penis and testicles inside my body!

We are going to have a son.

This is a whole new ballgame.

"I have a penis and testicles inside my body!" Getting in touch with your inner hermaphrodite, huh?

Congrats. Boys are awesome!

I see a giant Parenthesis Sale trash bag full of blue clothes in your future.

You didn't tell me the baby looks like Tracy when you called! That makes this exciting news even better. I expect him to be winning fake awards from Japan soon. :)

CONGRATS! Let me tell you, changing a boy diaper is so much easier than a girl diaper. No digging to get the extra mess out of the folds. Yea, you do have to cover quickly, but heck, everyone gets peed on once! YIPPEEE....
So I can't count...will he need fall clothes that are 3-6 months? I'm trying to think about what hasn't yet been given away...and it's too early in the morning to count. ;)

Marketing Mommy -- How well you know me! After my initial shock, one of my first thoughts was, now I can start tagging my infant girl clothes for sale!

Alli -- Let's see, due in July, so yeah, 3-6 would be good for fall, if you have any. Thanks!

Yay for the Funny Funny Family! I am so excited for y'all! Boys are pretty great, I must say. And, yes, you need to pefect your duck and cover technique - you wouldn't believe the range on these little guys! Congrats, congrats, congrats :)

Oh, and I felt the same way when we found out we are having a boy. I was all like, "But I don't know what to do with a boy! How do you raise a boy?!?!"

Aaron assured me he could help me out with that, though. :-)

OMG YAYYYY!!! That is so exciting. Boys are fantastic--I so love having them in the house. Congrats!

PS: boy diapers are EASY. Way fewer folds. When the little sac gets poopy, you just wrap a wipe around and do a squeezy pull to get it all off. It doesn't bother them at all!

Yay! You know, I didn't think I knew what to do with a boy either. I thought the universe owed me another girl, because I already had such great gear for her. But having a boy has been a trip. Let me tell you, the energy is totally different, and as far as I'm concerned, the whole nature/nurture question is solved. Yay Baby Boy! And I also agree with Nutmeg, some things do remain a mystery.

Little boys are awesome. Congrats.

Re: the 'penis and testicles inside my body'... I had the exact same thought when I was pregnant with my son! HA!

I agree with all the 'boys are awesome' comments. Also their diapers *are* easier to change.

And, of course, congratulations!

Congratulations! I can offer up plenty of rejected boys' names.... Aloysius.... Bartholomew.... Rumpelstiltsken...

Good luck!

Boys are fun! I am sure that girls are fun too, but my experience is fairly limited, so I can only vouch for the boys.
Cheers!

Congrats Carrie and family! I am so excited for you guys!

After 1 boy and being currently pregnant with a girl, I second the idea that boy diapers are easier to change. Just put a washcloth on the penis so he doesn't spray you or himself! :) (BTW it's hilarious when they pee in their own faces because they have no idea where it's coming from...)

(I am terrified of wiping poop out of all the baby girl skin folds... eek!)

Congratulations! You are going to love having a boy. I have one of each, and I think each is terrifically wonderful.

Yay! I was hoping you'd have a boy. You'd be surprised at how fun boys are. I think you guys will do just fine. :-)

Congratulations on the baby boy. I've been a lurker here since I stumbled across your site a couple of months ago. I was surfing to see if there was another blog out there who's life was similar to mine, two girls, pregnant with a third. We won't know what we're having until the end of April, but the last 16 people I've known who have delivered babies (all in less than a year) have had a boy. It certainly will be different and quite an exciting adventure. Good luck to you and your family.
