This Is Not the First Time My 4-Year-Old Has Outsmarted Me

Nor will it be the last.

I just looked out the front window and saw a car that looks just like ours, same make, model and color, parked on the street. My heart skipped a beat, because we are not allowed to park on the street overnight here in Oak Park. I studied the car, looking for a ticket on the window, and trying to figure out if it was really ours. I don't know our license plate number, so that didn't help.

I pointed it out to Nutmeg, and we stared at it together.

"I know that's not our car," she said.

"Well, first, there is no car seat or booster seat in the back."

I had been looking for the same exact thing, and I agreed that it appeared there were not.

"Also," she continued, "It has a license plate on the front."

See, several months ago our rear license plate fell off. I applied for a replacement, and have been waiting and waiting for it to arrive. In the meantime, we moved the front plate to the back.

But did I think of that? Nope. Only Nutmeg did.
