Something Tells Me I'm Into Something Good

Suddenly I feel like everything is rolling along around here. It snowed all morning and now the sun is streaming in our living room windows. It fits my mood.

Here are some of the things I'm happy about today:

1) Pebbles skipped her middle-of-the-night wakeup for the last two nights in a row! I feed her before I go to bed and then not until morning. She's also been taking two naps a day, at least one of them a darn good one. Please, let this be a new habit and not a fluke!

2) I got paid. In a single day, I received two checks: One for my first freelance job since the beginning of my move/Pebbles career hiatus, and the other for ... this blog! Thanks to you, dear readers, I earned $30 for the first two months of running ads on this blog. It's modest, yes, but it's a start. In the future you may notice my attempts to pump up the readership a bit to add to that bottom line. Which leads me to...

4) I joined the Chicago Moms Blog. I should have a post up there tomorrow, when the topic of the day is breastfeeding. There will be some cross-posting as well. I won't get paid for this, but I am hoping that readers will follow me from there to here, like ants luring other ants into the poison trap.

5) Just two days after I joined that, I was notified that a blog I applied to write for months ago, ParentingSquad, is finally launching. It's from the same company that publishes Wise Bread, where I've been blogging for a few months. I do get paid for this, that is, I get to keep the ad revenue from my blog pages. However, since it just launched and doesn't have any readers, my guess is it'll be awhile before I can capture a princely sum like $15 a month.

6) It's the holidays, and our house feels, well ... liveable. There are still so many things we want to do, but we're comfortable now and that means a lot this time of year. This Saturday we're planning to take the kids to the decorated Wright home and studio and then to buy a Christmas tree. Who knows, maybe getting the tree decorated will even inspire us to get some framed pictures up on our walls.

7) The girls had their fancy photo session, and it went nicely. Sadly, I don't have a temporary gallery to link to this time, but take more word for it, the pics are divine.

8) I hired a cleaning lady. She comes once every two weeks, but if I start earning more money, the first thing I'll do is have her come every week.

So that's it. Are there concerns and worries and stresses? Golly, yes. I'm almost certainly taking on too much free or low-paid blogging work when I could be pursuing more lucrative freelance assignments. But blogging is so quick and easy. We'll see if it leads to anything.

Our cleaning lady saves our marriage every other week.

It is, hands down, the best money I ever spend.
