It's Coming!

I had heard around town that there *might* be a Trader Joe's coming to Oak Park. I thought about this rumor often and longingly, because one of the big things I miss about living in the city (either of the two lovely cities we left in the past two years) is Trader Joe's. The place where the employees are so friendly that you feel (whether they're male or female) that they must be hitting on you. And then you see yourself in your car window in the parking lot, in your dirty maternity coat, your hair electric from the stocking hat, your toddler tearing into a package of cheese with her teeth, and you realize that, no, they are not flirting with you. Not at all. They're just that nice there.

But anyway. Yesterday someone or other slipped a map of downtown Oak Park into our mail slot. Something to remind us to Christmas shop locally or something. There on the map, up in one corner, near the Metra station, it said:

(drum roll)

It's true! It's true! Last night I dreamed of cheap whole wheat pasta, whole wheat couscous, two-buck Chuck at $2.99. Dare I imagine they'll carry Trader Joe's scotch? Whoah, there. This is Oak Park, after all, land of virtual prohibition.

I have no idea how soon it's coming, and a Web search was strangely unfruitful. But it's good to know that it's coming.

I've been waiting for the OP Trader Joe's for 3 1/2 years now. But it finally looks like it will happen.
