Nice Weather We're Having, Isn't It?

I'm now realizing one of the most annoying parts of winter here: It's not the ultracold days when you stay inside or venture out with layers and layers of clothing. It's what passes for a nice day around here.

In San Francisco, a nice winter day may hit 70 degrees. No matter what the temp, it's brilliantly sunny, and you eat your lunch in Yerba Buena Gardens. Today, I heard it was supposed to be nice out in the Chicago area, I suggested that our little family go to downtown Evanston for Christmas shopping. I didn't bother to put on a sweater under my maternity coat, which is on the light side, and I wore a crocheted hat, which is not all that warm.

The temperature was in the 50s, but the sky was gray and the wind was blowing. I was freezing until Epu gave me the sweatshirt he was wearing under his coat. In SF, I'd call this day "chilly" or "blustery" or "gloomy," but here, apparently, this is "a nice day." Sigh.

Just wait until June when it's 75 and sunny in Chicago and 55 and foggy in San Francisco. You'll feel so much better. :)

P.S. The low here this weekend is close to freezing (32 degrees)! No "nice days" of winter this week. It's SO COLD in San Francisco right now.

The lack of sunshine your first winter back is a killer, at least in my personal experience. Like San Francisco, DC is so much more sunny, and I certainly miss it.
