All Done

Nutmeg is weaned. I wouldn't have imposed this on her in the midst of potty training, but it just happened. She went a few days without asking for it, and then when she finally did ask for it, she stopped after just a second and informed me, "It doesn't work." Tried the other nursie, same story. She commanded me to go drink milk so I could make more milk, and indeed I have, but milk consumption has not led to return of milk. Now, she only asks for it every few days, when upset or trying to get to sleep, and usually she will desist when I remind her that the nursies don't have milk anymore. A few times, she has plaintively asked to "nursie without milk," which just melts my heart in its acceptance that, hey, circumstances change, but I'll take what cold comfort I can. I let her, and it lasts a couple seconds.

Every once in awhile since this happened, she will give my breasts a loving kiss or pat. Once when she did this, she said, "These nursies don't make milk."

"How do you feel about that?" I asked.

"Bad," she said.

Well. "I'm so glad we had this little talk," I said, and she couldn't answer because I was hugging her too tightly for her to take a breath.

Awh, man, that made me cry! I'm sure she's going to be a big help to her little sister or brother where nursing is concerned, telling them how great it is, and celebrating that milk is coming out again!
