Toddler rhetoric

Yesterday, Nutmeg and I had the first of -- I'm sure -- millions of mother-daughter arguments.

She had colored on a page of one of her Dora picture books.

"This is not a coloring book," I told her, sternly.
"That is a coloring book," she replied.
"No, that is not a coloring book."
"That is a coloring book."
"Nutmeg, Mommy knows. Mommy is right, Nutmeg is wrong."
"Mommy is right," she repeated. Ha!
But then, after a moment's thought: "Mommy is wrong."

Ay, ay, ay.
