2 turntables and a pacifier:
Nutmeg had her checkup with Dr. Wright yesterday. In the waiting room they had the Leapstart Learning Table, which she has at home, and the Fisher-Price learning table, side by side. So Nutmeg crawls right over and starts playing with both, one hand on each, looking like the world's shortest dj at the turntables. Dr. Wright happened to come out to the desk at that moment, looked out, and said, "Oh, look at her with the motor skills!" During the checkup, Dr. Wright said, "I saw she's pulling up to a stand." I was like, yeah, she's been doing that for like, 100 years. Then Nutmeg patted my chest and said in a very deliberate way, "mama."
"Thank you for introducing us!" the doctor told her.
All in all, the doc was very happy with both motor development and verbal. Nutmeg's 18 pounds, 5 ounces, which is still in the 50th percentile. Her growth line is flattening out a little, which Dr. Wright said is typical at this age for breastfed babies.
Later that day, my old buddy Matt Schwader came to visit from Chicago. He was sent here for a brief corporate acting job. Too cool! We did some quick sightseeing, went to Scomas with Nutmeg and Daddy, and had a great time. And now I have to go to bed at 9 p.m. cause we were up so late last night.
