Did I mention the peek-a-boo? Nutmeg will now lift a blanket over her face, then quickly lower it, and laugh and grin when we shout "peekaboo!" She'll do this about 20 times in a row, usually until she wears us out with it. In line at Trader Joe's today, I thought my fellow shoppers were going to kill me if I shouted "peekaboo!" one more time, but it was the only way to keep her content in her stroller.

But my big update is Nutmeg's latest step toward crawling: Now when she's sitting and she wants to get a toy that's about a foot from her, instead of falling on her face to reach it, she can rock forward, then walk her hands out, grab the toy, and return to a sitting position. She is very pleased with this and will do it over and over, until she comes to a toy she can't reach or get a good grip on, and then she yells. It sounds like she's swearing. "God damnit!" she's shouting, and who can blame her?

I will be working Tuesdays, Wednesday mornings and Fridays when I return to work in 2 weeks. This is after much negotiating between my coworker Dan, who will share the software beat with me, Daddy, and Dan's wife. Daddy is actually taking NEXT week off, even though I'll still be home, because he needs to take off a solid week to get his family leave claim started, and his work is too busy the last week of the month or the first week of November to let him go then. So I'll have some solid time to work on my grad school application. I actually registered to take the GRE, so after years of thinking about it, I'm actually doing something about this. I'm not putting in more than 1 or 2 apps this year though. No time.
