Anyone deciding where to have their baby should check out today's Chronicle. They're doing a series about the high US infant mortality rate (#36 worldwide, tied with Bulgaria), and today's article, "Flawed System," says babies are dying because hospitals unqualified to care for high-risk births and sick babies sometimes resist transferring them because they don't want to lose the revenue. More than ever, I feel grateful for having access to UCSF.
